The Training semester is for both students who have completed our in-house Emergency Medical Responder certification class and also for people wanting to join our unit who have already obtained, at minimum, an EMR/First Responder or EMT-B certification elsewhere. Although our Training semester is typically a mix of students certified as Emergency Medical Responders & EMTs, the training is designed to ultimately prepare each member to operate at the level of an EMR on Florida State University's main campus and ensure that all responding members share a consistent understanding and demonstrate proficiency with regard to our policies, procedures, and organizational values. A majority of the training will be completed during a weekly shift that students will select based on available times within their schedule. Weekly skill reviews and check-offs will be utilized to assess each student's progress. Trainees will also be required to volunteer along with experienced MRU Responders at campus events such as football tailgates, baseball games, FSU's Flying High Circus, etc. Attendance is also required for MRU's monthly membership meetings.

 

Acceptance into the Field Training semester is contingent on a student's ability to dedicate a minimum of three consecutive Fall & Spring semesters to active membership in the FSU Medical Response Unit. Summer semesters will not count towards this requirement and no exceptions to this rule will be made. The beginning of the Training semester will mark the start of this commitment, and students must remain actively enrolled and in good standing at FSU the entire duration of their membership with MRU (i.e. an applicant cannot volunteer with MRU the two semesters before they graduate and then one semester after). For this reason, current seniors and some juniors will not be eligible to interview for admission into this program.
