Past Global Changes (PAGES) CoralHydro2k Seawater δ18O Database Survey

The goal of this survey is to collect ‘hidden’ seawater δ18O (δ18Osw) data (i.e., data that is not stored in a publicly available, long-term data repository) for use in oceanographic and paleoceanographic applications. This effort is part of the larger PAGES CoralHydro2k Project to reconstruct tropical hydroclimate variability and change over the Common Era from coral archives. While our primary emphasis is on δ18Osw data from tropical regions, we recognize that observational δ18Osw data has tremendous value for many paleo and modern climate applications, and thus we welcome datasets from all ocean regions and all sample collection types (e.g. cruises, intermittent collections, and/or regular collections from one or more sites). This data will be collated into a database that will be assigned a DOI and archived in a long-term public repository. As such, it may help satisfy data availability requirements for scientific journals and funding agencies. We envision that this δ18Osw database will be used by members of the modeling, observational, and paleo oceanographic communities for data-model intercomparisons and to better leverage paleoclimate datasets in the study of climate variability and change.

This survey consists of a short series of multiple choice and short answer questions about your data (up to 27 questions, variable based on provided answers). Please note that questions marked with an asterisk (*) are required. At the end of the survey, you will be asked to download and complete an Excel file with your data. Instructions and data header descriptions can be found on the “READ ME” tab, and data should be entered in the “Data” worksheet. Only bolded, yellow highlighted columns are required. Once completed, please save the file to your computer and upload it to the survey.

Do you know of a published dataset that we should include in our database, but lack the permission (or time) to upload the data directly? Please submit a DOI or citation recommendation via our Google form here: https://forms.gle/M263p7SM7mteQbrf9
